Watkins Glen Becomes Michal’s Glen!

Winner – Michal Nizio (Rapid Racing) 28 Laps 50:54.890
Fastest Lap – Alexis Clapano (LMP-ANBU) 1:44.838
Pole Position –Andika Rama Maulana (GT-Sim.ID YLAB) 1:43.196

Michal Nizio has once again dominated the opposition in a superlative race performance which saw him climb five places to take his third World SimSports GT3 Europe Championship powered by NRT Game Servers. In a race which saw the lead change four times, Nizio once again demonstrated the skills that have kept him at the top of the championship standings from round 1. It wasn’t entirely business as usual, however, with Andika Rama Maulana taking pole with a sensational time of 1:43.196, just over three tenths faster than LMP-ANBU’s Alexis Clapano. However, an incident packed race saw HME-Amsterdam’s Harris Muhammad ascend to the second podium position and Maulana unable to match his superlative qualifying pace in the race and achieving third.

Further back some drivers put in some outstanding performances, with Mike Crowing gaining a sensational twelve places on his starting position. Denis Peminov also had a great race, taking seven places to finish in fifth. A high rate of attrition characterised the race, not helped by a large shunt on the opening lap featuring Jose Maria Arias and Mark Robinson. Several other drivers were collected in the ensuing collision, but the stewards have ruled a racing incident.

The championship now sees Nizio 19 points clear of the chasing Harris Muhammad and Daniele Vidimari. It is difficult to see, with the midpoint of the championship approaching, any driver mounting a consistent challenge to Nizio’s pace at this point. Many drivers will be looking at the upcoming Endurance event at Bathurst and it’s promise of a double points finish as crucial in catching the runaway Rapid Racing driver.
